Giving back in 2025: Volunteering and stewardship recap

January 6, 2026

Some of our teammates are passionate about caring for animals. Others want to support vulnerable children and their families.

We have teammates fighting against food insecurity, homelessness, and the list goes on.

Wherever their generosities lie, we are just so grateful to have teammates who place such high value on giving back to their communities through their time, talents, and treasures.

Please help us recognize the outstanding work they do to support local communities by checking out our 2025 volunteering and stewardship recap!

Avera Race Against Cancer

Always down for a race, we bring a team each year to help support patients at the Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls.

Team FNB consisted of 45 teammates and family members for the 2025 Avera Race Against Cancer.

Bishop Dudley Hospitality House

In our new teammate orientation, called Culture Camp, teammates learn the importance of our Stewardship value by completing a service project.

At the September session of Culture Camp, 14 of our newer teammates (joined by Executive Team members) assembled 50 hygiene kits for donation to Bishop Dudley to support those facing homelessness.

Calm Waters and Tea Food Pantry food drives

According to Feeding South Dakota, 113,750 people in our state are food insecure.

We held two food drives this year to fight hunger in our area, with teammates donating approximately 200 items for Calm Waters in Sioux Falls and the Tea Area Food Pantry.

Children’s Home Society

In April, members of our internal United Way committee took part in the Sioux Empire United Way’s 2025 Day of Action.

Their volunteer assignment was to clean up the grounds at the Children’s Home Society, which included picking up trash and retrieving lost balls that the children have played with.

Additionally, eight of our teammates volunteered with the Children’s Home Society Gift Wrap Booth on December 17. They wrapped presents at the Empire Mall to raise donations for the social service agency.

Community Blood Bank and Red Cross blood drives

Every year, we host regular blood drives with the Community Blood Bank at our Downtown and Brandon branch locations. We hosted a Red Cross blood drive this year as well.

From all of the blood drives we hosted this year, more than 100 units of blood were collected with the potential to save the lives of nearly 300 local patients.

Feeding South Dakota

They’re one of our favorite nonprofits to partner with, which is why we tackled three separate volunteer shifts at Feeding South Dakota this year.

In February, 13 of our teammates packed frozen food bags to feed 950 families.

Our summer interns got a taste of our Stewardship value when they volunteered in July, packing boxes of food for 450 families, carrots for 220 families, and soda and candy orders for agencies.

The final outing in August consisted of 13 teammates packing food boxes to feed 400 families.

Habitat for Humanity

We’re proud to sponsor Habitat for Humanity’s annual Women Build event each year. But our teammates love to get their hands on power tools, so we also gather up some volunteers to take part in the event!

Nine of our teammates showed up and showed out to help frame a basement on a house that will become home to a local family.

Oh, and our friends at Dakota News Now even stopped by to cover the event, so check out that story at this link: Volunteers Give Back at Habitat for Humanity’s “Women Build” Event.

Junior Achievement

Last school year, 40 of our teammates volunteered in local classrooms for Junior Achievement.

Through their annual Junior Achievement Ice Cream Social Fundraiser, longtime JA volunteers Erin Fossell, Kae Klinkenborg, Stacy Krouse, and Tony Goettsch raised $1,580 for the nonprofit.

Meanwhile, 20 of our teammates volunteered with Junior Achievement’s Finance Park event at Harrisburg High School in December. They led 77 personal finance students through a lifestyle simulation to demonstrate how life choices impact long-term goals.

Project Warm-Up

As part of a longstanding winter tradition, our teammates made 55 fleece tie blankets to donate to Project Warm-Up — which then distributed the blankets to children and families within the Sioux Empire who are in need.

Rake the Town

What better way to celebrate Halloween than raking leaves for members of our community?

This year, 33 teammates volunteered to clean up the lawns of seniors and individuals with disabilities during Active Generations’ yearly Rake the Town event.

Sioux Empire United Way

Our teammates and retirees donated $148,439.56 of their own money to this year’s Sioux Empire United Way campaign. With the Bank’s dollar-for-dollar match, we were able to contribute a total of $296,879.12!

Sioux Falls Area Humane Society

Thirteen teammates volunteered at our local humane society in April: completing outdoor projects, freshening up playpens for the dogs, and spending enrichment time with the shelter animals.

We also held a donation drive in August, where teammates donated 60 items from the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society’s wish list.

Sioux Falls Cares

To spread Christmas cheer, 22 of our teammates volunteered with Sioux Falls Cares in December. They picked up donated items and delivered them to local families in need ahead of the holiday.

St. Francis House

On May 1, five teammates visited the St. Francis House to assemble and decorate May Day baskets, which they filled with treats and messages for guests.

The Banquet

Our support of The Banquet dates back a long way, and serving there is another opportunity to fight food insecurity in our community. In March, seven teammates prepared an evening meal at the downtown location.

The Outdoor Campus

Say what you will about bankers, but ours are never afraid to get their hands dirty. In June, 13 teammates volunteered for a cleanup project with The Outdoor Campus.

Veterans Community Project

Not only did we sponsor one of the tiny houses at the Veterans Community Project, but we’ve volunteered there for three years straight.

In July, 12 teammates braved the summer heat to paint trim and doors on five of the houses. Watch the video below for a quick recap of their day:

Giving back in 2025

While these are just the ways our teammates give back on Bank time, we’re also grateful for how they give of their own time and resources to the organizations closest to their hearts.

Whenever you see them volunteering around town, don’t be shy — say hello!
