Mama’s Ladas and Mama’s Phried & Phillys may be small, but their impact in the Sioux Falls community over the last 18 years has been monumental. It all started with a young Jayme Mothershead who was talked into making and selling her mother’s enchiladas by her father.
“I’ve only made the enchiladas maybe two times, but I’ve had that faith from my father that we could do it,” Jayme said.
The rest is basically history, that is, until her father cooked up another idea. He also convinced her husband, Matt Mothershead, into opening a small eatery called Mama’s Phried & Phillys. Using his grandmother’s recipe for fried chicken, Matt joined forces with Jayme to create the dynamic duo that is Mama’s Ladas and Mama’s Phried & Phillys.
“Finally I just gave in and said ‘fine we’ll do it. Let’s see what happens.’ Low and behold he was absolutely correct because five years down the road, it’s one of the hottest spots downtown,” Matt said.
Both Mama’s Ladas and Mama’s Phried & Phillys are open Monday through Saturday; stop in and say hello!
