Each holiday season, we award $2,500 to the four non-profits with the most mentions on our social media pages. Among our lucky winners last year was local non-profit, Simon Says Give.
Simon Says Give is a non-profit run by kids for kids. Their mission is to engage youth who want to help their peers by volunteering their time, talents, and treasures. By 2022, it is their goal to impact the lives of 2 million kids across the country!
The following answers were provided by Kid President, Nolan (age 11), and Kid Marketing Director, Jonah (age 12).
Q: Did you expect to be one of our four winners last year?
A: Not really, but we had a lot of fun brainstorming on how we could reach out to the public, our friends, and our sponsors to get more votes.
Q: How did you spread the word and get people to vote for your organization?
A: We used our marketing and social skills to think of people we could reach out to to help us out.
Q: What was it like to see the votes pour in?
A: It was astounding how many people support us and are cheering us along. We were grateful for every single vote!
Q: How did winning a gift of $2,500 impact your organization?
A: We were excited to win! We’ve used the money to feed kids, provide birthday parties, toys, clothes, and other necessities to do other cool stuff for kids in need in Sioux Falls.
Q: What else can you tell us about Simon Says Give?
A: We have four pillars: kids’ leadership, birthday parties, school supplies, and projects that fight kids’ hunger. It’s our goal to help kids be successful and become the next generation of leaders.
